The Brecon Beacons National Park is 'Natures Theme Park', and Canal Barn Bunkhouse with it's superior washing, drying, and equipment storage facilities is the base for a wide range of outdoor activities and pursuits. Walking, cycling, mountain biking and pony trekking are the mainstream activities, but the Brecon Beacons are also a major centre for canoeing, caving, rock climbing and abseiling, and other perhaps more unusual outdoor activities such as hang gliding, gorge walking, rafting, and mountain boarding. The lake at Llangorse and local reservoirs are ideal for all types of water sport, including sailing and wind surfing.
To help you plan your action packed stay at Canal Barn Bunkhouse, we have listed web-links to local providers and agencies who can supply the activity or package of outdoor activities you want. You are advised to fully satisfy yourself of their accreditation (ensure they are AALA registered) as in giving these contacts no recommendation or endorsement is implied. Alternatively for those who want to go their own way we keep a reference library of Guide Books and Maps of the area at the Bunkhouse, but regular visitors to the area are strongly advised to purchase their own maps directly from the Ordnance Survey.
Above all Safety on the Hills is paramount and you should ensure you are suitably clothed, equipped, and have properly qualified and experienced group leaders/instructors for your planned outdoor activities. A detailed 3 day Mountain Weather Forecast for the Brecon Beacons area is available from the Met Office.
