Walking and Hiking in Brecon Beacons, Wales Walking and Hiking
Brecon is without doubt one of the great walking and hiking centres of Europe. The central peaks of the Brecon Beacons overlook the town, with the Black Mountains to the East and the Fforest Fawr and Mynydd Du ranges to the West. These together with waterfalls, lakes, fast-flowing rivers, varied woodland and wide expanses of moorland all thrown in for good measure make the area a must for both the dedicated hill walker (even the SAS do their training here) and those looking for a less strenuous ramble.

Right outside the Bunkhouse the Canal towpath is on the Usk Valley Walk, the Taff Trail long distance footpath from Cardiff to Brecon, and Lon Las Cymru ('the Greenways of Wales'), Sustrans route 8, making Canal Barn Bunkhouse an ideal stop over for groups following one of the longest and most scenic walking routes in the UK.

Why not leave your car at the Bunkhouse and explore our diverse local landscape, scenery and wild life by following one of our special walks that start and finish at the Bunkhouse:
For more original walking routes with a difference that start and finish and finish at a bunkhouse see Boots Bikes and Bunkhouses.

In addition we keep a library of Guide Books and O/S Maps of the area at the Bunkhouse, including walks by FreeSpirit Images, to help you plan new, different and more adventurous routes to follow.
