| This is a walk for the serious hiker being approximately 26 Km long with 900m of climbing. The route incorporates the 4 major peaks in the Central Beacons: Fan-y-Big at 719m; Cribyn at 795m; then Pen-y-Fan, the highest point in southern Britain at 886m and finally Corn Du at 873m. | Brecon Beacons |

The walk starts deceptively easily with a pleasant stroll along the canal bank and then along lanes rising gently towards the base of the Beacons. The route then ascends steadily to Fan-y-Big, and from there further sharp climbs lead around the ridges to the other peaks affording incredible views north to the peaks of Snowdonia and south to the Bristol Channel and Exmoor. |
|
The path then drops back down following country lanes back to Brecon where you cross over the Usk Bridge into the old town, providing an excuse to ‘rest your feet and recover’ at the Boars Head pub that has an excellent selection of locally brewed ales. The walk is about 16 miles / 26 Km long, so allow around 8 to 9 hours excluding stops. A detailed route map and description, plus relevant OS Map, are available free for Bunkhouse residents to use. |
